IG: mattnotgloss This newly opened place offers a good variety of Malaysian cuisine, and the price point is reasonable, which explains the long queues, especially on weekends. The curry noodles were not the typical local curry, which can, at times, be very lemak. It was more similar to the kind cooked with evaporated milk, allowing it to be creamy and flavourful without being overpowering. The nasi lemak was interesting. The rice was not the usual fluffy basmati rice one would expect. Imagine the rice as a fusion between chicken rice and lemak rice. This was not a bad thing, though. As I chewed on the grains, they released a nice aroma. The sambal, which was not overly spicy, elevated the dish with its spiced savory profile. The achar balanced out the greasiness, making the staple a rather wholesome dish to have at any time of day. Coffee was smooth and fragrant, and the usual sweetness would be just right for the majority. The Shao pau was a disappointment, though. The fillings lacked fragrance, and the dough, while flaky, was a little dry. Overall, this is a nice place, conveniently located beside the MRT, to satisfy your cravings for Malaysian delights.

Food took a long time to be served. My fried rice with fried chicken was very bland, and the Hokkien Mee was very salty. The egg tart was so cold. The only saving grace is the coffee.

Disappointing experience at this Nanyang-themed cafe. Shockingly, they ran out of coffee, which is a staple in Nanyang culture. To make matters worse, I opted for their tea instead, which was sadly below average. The food was mediocre, lacking a 'wow' factor. Unfortunately, I've had better experiences at other Nanyang-inspired cafes in Singapore. But what left a sour taste was the service team's attitude, which was really rough. It made me wonder if they've had any hospitality training or guidance. The final nail in the coffin was the nasi lemak chicken, which was partially raw. At that point, I didn't even bother to follow up, as it would've been a waste of more time and effort.

Here's the edited review: **Salted Egg Chicken Fried Rice** The fried rice was bland, and the chicken was under-seasoned. The salted egg sauce was also bland. The portion was small for the price we paid. **XO Sauce Fried Carrot Cake** This was the only one that was decent. It did not have any wok flavour. The portion size was also small. **Fried Pork Belly Rice Bowl** The pork belly was fried well but, as expected, bland. The omelette was also bland, which made up 80% of the dish. Service was not up to standard, as we needed to call the staff a few times before they even attended to us. Overall, most of the food was bland and very overpriced for the portion.

I am writing to share my disappointing experience at your Plantation Plaza branch on 20/2/25, between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. My family and I ordered the following items: • Fried Kway Teow • Nasi Lemak • Chicken Cutlet Fried Rice • Iced Yuan Yang • Iced Coffee • Iced Milo The Fried Kway Teow and drinks were served promptly, and we assumed the rice dishes would follow soon, especially since the restaurant was not particularly crowded, though we did notice some GrabFood orders being prepared. However, after waiting for nearly 25 minutes, the rice dishes had still not arrived. We had to check with the staff, who then started asking around in the kitchen. Eventually, we were informed that the Nasi Lemak was not ready and would take another 5 minutes. I was quite frustrated that we were not informed earlier and had to follow up ourselves. When the Chicken Cutlet Fried Rice was finally served, I immediately noticed that the chicken did not look right. Upon touching it, I realized it was cold and uncooked, raising serious concerns about food safety. I had to stop my son from eating it. At this point, we lost our appetite and patience and decided to cancel the remaining order. I informed your staff that we would only pay for the food we consumed. While they apologized and offered a 10% discount, the overall experience was extremely disappointing. We are regular customers at your Thomson Plaza branch and have never encountered such issues. We genuinely enjoy your food, but the service and food quality at the Plantation Plaza outlet fell far below expectations. This experience raises concerns about food safety and service efficiency, which I hope your management will seriously address.

Newly opened outlet in Tengah. It’s less crowded at the moment. Nasi Lemak was good, especially the chili and the chicken. The rojak is also good for sharing. Seats here are a little limited, but I think it’s worth the wait for the affordable, delicious food.

Here's an edited version focusing on grammar and minor improvements: Situated at Level 1 of Plantation Plaza. Quite crowded on a weekend evening. Waiting time to get into the restaurant was still okay, as it's quite spacious. Food is good, same standard as other Swensen's. I like this new chicken baguette sandwich. However, the service and efficiency could improve. Water was not served. Some side dishes were either forgotten or not prepared, and we had to remind them a few times. Food also took a bit longer than usual. I understand this outlet is new, and it still has room for improvement.

I visited Swensen’s at Plantation Plaza recently and found the food quality to be decent, but the service left a lot to be desired. When our waitress brought my wife’s burger, she tilted the plate too much and sent half the fries tumbling onto the table—not once, but twice (the second time with our fish & chips). It was awkward having to pick them up myself, and she never offered to help or replace them. To make matters worse, the BBQ sauce cup that came with the fries was dripping down the side, as if it had been carelessly filled and not wiped clean before serving. Small details like that really add up. The ice cream and overall menu selection are still what draw me here, so I’d give them another shot if service improves. Right now, though, it’s more of a “food over experience” kind of place. Three stars. Add-on: Overheard one of the waiters telling their colleague to hurry with cleaning the table because the couple queuing outside looked like they've not eaten for 10 years. Snarky comments should be private and away from the dining floor. This outlet really has a problem with service.

Service was really poor. When we arrived, we stood outside for about 5 minutes even though there were available seats. No one acknowledged us. When a staff member finally came over, we requested to sit in the air-conditioned area, as we could see the table just needed a quick cleanup. Instead of a quick wait, however, we were left standing outside for another 15 minutes while two staff members very slowly cleaned the table. When we were finally seated, the table was still wet, and there were water droplets on one side of the sofa. It was a very bad start. Once the soup arrived, we wanted to request chilli and pepper, so we raised our hands multiple times. No one came. Two staff members walked past us, including the manager, and completely ignored us. Later, when our mains arrived, I asked for chilli, pepper, and cheese. The manager only brought chilli and pepper. At that point, I was too tired of their bad service to even chase after the missing item. As for the food: I had the dry laksa. It was okay, edible, but nothing special. Even the lime wasn’t cut, so I had to do it myself. My husband had the crispy chicken chop. It looked huge at first glance, but it was extremely thin. There was barely any meat in the middle; it was just skin and flour. Extremely disappointing. I know I can’t expect much from a budget restaurant (their prices are more affordable compared to many other places), but that doesn’t mean they should allow such bad service. Astons, for example, is similarly priced, and yet their service is so much better. Overall, the experience was underwhelming. Definitely not what I expected from Swensen’s. Honestly, I’d rather see Astons take over this space.

Our last visit to Swensen's was a few years ago at another outlet. We were contemplating eating here. While browsing the menu, the server—didn't get his name, a young Chinese boy with glasses, probably a student—recommended a few nice dishes that made us want to dine in. The server who took our order was another young Malay boy, Zaky. He was patient and friendly in taking our orders. He was multitasking, taking orders, cashiering, and preparing desserts. He even apologized for sending our dessert a bit later because he was busy with cashiering (which I was aware of, because we were seated near the cashier). Food was great, still as good as it used to be. Definitely recommend dining here. It's not very crowded, but I can't speak for the weekends though.
