We ordered the pig liver soup to try because most of the other options were spicy. We'll definitely want to try the spicy options too! But this time around, we had to choose non-spicy to make it kid-friendly. The ngoh hiang was crunchy and yummy!
Claypot Soup—A warm little gem bubbling in the heart of the neighbourhood.
Dropped by this cosy spot and found a few hits worth slurping.
Tried the frog leg soup—it’s alright, but leans on the bland side. Not bad, just not the star of the show.
The real MVP? 麻油鸡. So. Damn. Delicious. Fragrant, warming, and full of that rich sesame oil flavour—an absolute must-try.
Also had the 青龙菜—a bit on the salty side, but still tasty enough to clean the plate.
Verdict: A comforting little claypot gem in a growing neighbourhood. Come for the 麻油鸡, and leave with a warm belly and a happy heart.
Service staff were welcoming and efficient. The ambiance was cozy and air-conditioned, with ceiling fans, but not too cold on a rainy day, so elderly guests sensitive to cold could still dine inside. They do provide outdoor seating, but it was raining.
I ordered the small portion, not knowing what to expect. Thinking the portion might not be much, but I was wrong! The claypot was filled with chicken chunks that were surprisingly tender and moist, and the sauce wasn't too salty or sweet, pairing well with the white rice. The only thing that could be improved would be if the sesame oil flavor could be more pronounced, as the dish is sesame oil chicken after all. I ordered less spicy, but it still came quite spicy (peppered with chili padi), so perhaps if you have kids dining, just order non-spicy.
Great value for the price paid, and I would recommend family members to come so that we can order a variety of their dishes to share. Definitely bringing my family here next time to gorge ourselves!
Lau Wang Claypot at Tengah Plantation Plaza is a great spot for Tengah residents. The sesame chicken is consistently delicious: flavourful, tender, and perfectly cooked. The dishes are served piping hot and packed with rich, comforting flavours. Service is quick and friendly too. Definitely a solid choice for anyone craving a hearty, satisfying meal.
Here's the edited review:
"This is the go-to meal for my husband and me whenever we eat out at Tengah Plantation Plaza! Nothing beats a heart- and tummy-warming claypot dish when we are hungry. Strongly recommend the sesame chicken and sambal lady finger — lip-smacking good. Plus, the staff and service are excellent — very friendly and fast to serve. We've patronized them many times."
Pretty disappointing after a long wait (they were slated to open in September but only opened in December).
Eggs were actually cold, which is pretty unforgivable. Even though they were quite generous with the butter, the kaya layer is very thin, which makes for an undesirable ratio. Went a second time, and it was the same.
Quite unfortunate, as I quite liked them when I tried their Bukit Timah outlet. I guess it's shrinkflation? Hard to compete with other chains like this, in my opinion. The redeeming quality is their coffee and tea. But honestly, I would rather go to Koufu for their toast.
We had 3 iced and 1 hot kopi-o. They were very strong and good 🙏❤️👍. The place was quiet until families marched in with noisy kids running around. Perhaps, better crowd control for safety. On the whole, thanks for the good kopi, for that price 🙏❤️👍. We will be back.
Enjoyed laksa and soft boiled eggs. Toasts were pretty crisp. Minced meat noodles were quite nice too, not too bland. The iced coffee was good, but the yuan yang didn't taste as thick as I expected. The space was simple but spacious enough. Will revisit sometime :)
Seriously, I don't understand why the rating is so high. The food portion is quite small (the photo was taken after eating 2 pieces of the meat). The chicken rice and Teh did not taste good at all. The Nutella toast and half-boiled eggs were just normal.
Kopifellas has always been a favorite of mine for their classic toast and egg set. The kaya and peanut butter toast is especially my top pick—crispy, fragrant, and comforting. When it comes to drinks, their Thai Green Milk Tea is my go-to. I love how thick, sweet, and satisfying it is every single time. A great spot for a quick, hearty local breakfast!
