Plantation Plaza Shares Five Habits to B-L-O-C-K the Spread of Dengue
Plantation Plaza is marking Purple Day with a dengue prevention campaign that encourages residents to say 'borahae' to their family and community by keeping dengue away. The campaign, themed 'Dengue Is No Small Matter', teaches five simple habits that help prevent Aedes mosquitoes from breeding. Details are available at go.gov.sg/2026-dp.
Break Up Hardened Soil
The first habit, B for Break, urges gardeners to use their power to break up hardened soil so water does not collect on the surface. Pooled water on compacted soil creates a breeding spot for Aedes mosquitoes, so loosening the ground keeps outdoor areas safer.
Lift and Empty Flowerpot Plates Weekly
The second habit, L for Lift, reminds residents that even small amounts of stagnant water are enough for mosquitoes to breed. Flowerpot plates should be lifted and emptied weekly to remove any water that has collected under pots.
Overturn Pails Before Mosquitoes Breed
The third habit, O for Overturn, targets hidden mozzie hideouts around the home. Pails should be overturned when not in use so rainwater cannot accumulate inside and become a breeding ground.
Change Water in Vases Regularly
The fourth habit, C for Change, applies to fresh flowers at home. Water in vases should be changed regularly to keep blooms fresh and mozzie-free, as stagnant vase water is a common indoor breeding site for Aedes mosquitoes.
