I was annoyed by the same salesperson every time I pay through the self-checkout counters around 2-2:30 PM due to their Trust Card inquiries. I politely rejected the first few times, but she just pushed further. I know she's just doing her job, but I found her very demanding when I told her, "I'm using my dad's NTUC app account, not mine," and she then replied, "You can create your own account." When I rejected her the third or fourth time, she still said, "But it's a great deal. Are you sure you don't want to?" Please do something about it, as it is ruining my experience and lowering my impression of this NTUC outlet.

I drop by at least once a week because their selection is decent, as most necessities are available. For the freshest veggies and fruit, go earlier in the day. The staff at the self-checkout counters are friendly and extremely helpful.

Here's the edited review: I would like to complain about a rude staff member named Jessica at NTUC Canberra Plaza. Canberra residents, please be on the lookout for such rude/unacceptable behavior. The store was not crowded at all. I bought a drink and a packet of sweets. With just two items, I decided to use the self-checkout machine. While I was making my way to the self-checkout machine, there was an NTUC staff member named Jessica standing nearby, just staring blankly. So I made my way to the machine and started scanning just these two items. I was trying to be self-sufficient and not disturb her, as she seemed unapproachable/unfriendly. Only then did I realise the machine was for card payment only, and I wanted to make a cash payment. Since she was standing right next to the machine, she saw what happened as I decided to switch to a cash payment machine. I was so shocked to see her reaction. She made an unhappy sound and unhappily took my items. I kept quiet, knowing I had made a mistake. She continued, making the unhappy sound again and saying, "Next time, check first before queuing up," in a rude tone. I was stunned by her gesture. Firstly, she is an ambassador of the self-checkout area. She should assist customers in their checkout process instead of scolding them. She was just standing there daydreaming. It wasn't crowded at all, so why scold me? I wasn't even holding up the queue. Secondly, she should have asked me in the first place if I intended to pay by cash or card, and directed me to the correct machine, instead of just standing there daydreaming again. She angrily took my items and handed them over to the cashier counter. I was still standing there at the self-checkout machine. She came back and ignored me. She never told me or directed me to proceed to the cashier counter for payment. I thought I had to go to the cash machine to scan my items. It was really rude and terrible service. If she is tired or unhappy for some reason, please don't work. She never informed me my items were at the counter until I asked where they were. The cashier had to call over, "Ma'am, your items are here." I went over to the cashier counter and proceeded with the payment. I then asked the cashier to redeem my points. She forgot, and I had to remind her again, which she then did. I never scolded her for her mistake, unlike what the 'aunty' had just done to me. Is there a penalty point if she uses her card to void the transaction?

Nearby supermarket. Price-wise, so-so, but there's a wide range of products here.

We visit a couple times a week, and food prices are good. The only problem is their fruit always seems to be less than fresh. Multiple times we had to return one or more pieces as the person packing the fruit is always trying to hide one bad or fungus-covered fruit at the bottom or under the tickets/labels. Really wish they would stop trying to sell bad fruit, as we no longer buy from them and instead recommend always taking the train to Northpoint Cold Storage for your fruit needs. NTUC's vegetables are perfectly acceptable, just not their fruit.

The experience was bad. I couldn't find any of the products I wanted, so I approached a lady in her 40s-50s. I asked her nicely about the product, showing her a picture. She didn't know what product it was, so she asked me. I replied that it was a type of biscuit. She replied, in Chinese, "Oh, I don't know leh. I'm not from the biscuit section." This was kind of rude to me. Doesn't FairPrice have scanners or computers to check if a product is available, or do staff usually have to go to the section and check for us? All she did was say, "Oh, I don't know leh." I had to search around the store to see if anyone else could help, but there wasn't anyone. I was so disappointed! After about 10-15 minutes, I found another staff member. She was in her 20s. I didn't see her name clearly, but she was Ms. Lee ( ) Lin. Sorry if I sounded rude. Anyway, she helped me with my problem. She went to two different sections for two different products. Even though she couldn't find them in the end, her approach was way too different from the older staff member's approach. She also recommended that I go to a bigger store. Please praise her and allow her to set an example for other staff members working there, so that customers like us can have a better experience.

I was standing and waiting in the line directed by a marked arrow towards the next cashier. The marked arrow was confusingly placed, which made people confused. When it was my turn, the cashier (Ms. Vineela Dasari) stopped me and told me I was coming from the wrong queue, then tried to serve another customer. In fact, I was faster than the other customer, who voluntarily yielded to me, all before the cashier stopped me. However, the cashier then complained to me about my approach. Then, I told her that the marked arrow had directed me to the cashier. Suddenly, she ignored me and did not respond at all. Thus, I asked her to call the manager. She still did not respond, so I kept asking the cashier “Excuse me” four times. Then, she pointed to a sign above her indicating "calling the manager." I was quite upset due to her impolite and dismissive attitude. Finally, the manager came to me and promised to correct the marked arrow. Please provide Ms. Vineela Dasari with some coaching sessions regarding not ignoring customer feedback and concerns.

The cashier snatched the cash as I paid her. Not surprisingly, there was no word of thanks either. As a large and established organisation like NTUC, the leader in employee matters, I think NTUC should invest in training its staff to be helpful and polite. Hopefully, NTUC would not just focus on profit-making, but on giving good service even as it has prospered.

This NTUC supermarket, located in the basement of Canberra Plaza, is smaller than usual. Grocery selection is limited, and based on several visits, the fruits and vegetables are usually not fresh. It's unclear if this is due in part to supply chain issues stemming from the global coronavirus pandemic.
