Who Can Join? Categories Tailored for Every Solver
We believe everyone deserves a shot at glory, which is why the Rubik's Race features two distinct categories designed to ensure fair play and maximum excitement:
Advanced Cubers: Test Your Mettle
This category is for the true speedcubing aficionados. If you live and breathe algorithms and have a valid World Cube Association (WCA) ID, this is your arena. We're looking for the best of the best, those who consistently solve in mere seconds.
- Age Groups: Under 15 and 15 & Older (based on birth year/birthday).
- WCA Requirement: Must hold a valid WCA ID.
- Inspection Time: A focused 15 seconds to plan your attack.
- Solve Time Limit: A blistering 90 seconds (1 minute 30 seconds) to complete the cube.
- Rounds: One intense round per participant.
- Winning: It's all about completion and the fastest time. In case of a tie, the number of faces completed within the time limit will be the secondary factor.
Leisure Cubers: Fun, Fast, and Fair
New to the competitive scene? Or perhaps you simply enjoy the challenge without the pressure of WCA rankings? The Leisure Cubers category is perfectly tailored for you! This is about embracing the fun of cubing and challenging yourself in a friendly environment.
- Age Groups: Under 15 and 15 & Older (based on birth year/birthday).
- WCA Requirement: Must NOT hold a valid WCA ID. (Don't worry, if you don't disclose, we'll assume the benefit of the doubt, but fair play is key!)
- Inspection Time: 15 seconds to get acquainted with the scramble.
- Solve Time Limit: A generous 3 minutes to conquer the cube.
- Rounds: One exciting round per participant.
- Winning: Just like the advanced category, completion and the fastest time reign supreme. Tiebreakers will consider the number of faces completed.
The Rules of Engagement: What You Need to Know
Fair play and a smooth experience are paramount. Here’s a rundown of the general rules that apply to all participants:
The Basics of the Solve
- Scrambling: Leave it to us! A designated facilitator will professionally scramble each cube using an approved method.
- Inspection: You'll have 15 seconds to inspect the cube before starting. Remember, hands only, no turning faces during this crucial planning stage!
- Solving: You get two (2) attempts, with your better time recorded as your final result. The cube will be provided by INTO E – no personal cubes allowed for the competition itself, though you're welcome to bring your own for practice!
Timing and Scoring
- Timing: Your solve time kicks off the moment you touch the cube and stops when you complete the solve and release the timer pad. Simple, right?
- Scoring: Speed is king! The fastest solve times determine the winners. In the rare event of a tie, especially in individual categories, the number of faces completed within the time limit will be the decider.
Conduct and Judging
- Code of Conduct: We expect everyone to conduct themselves with sportsmanlike grace. Respect your fellow competitors and the spirit of the game.
- Judging: Our dedicated facilitators will be on hand to ensure everyone adheres to the rules, resolve any disputes fairly, and guarantee a level playing field. Their decisions are final, so let's keep it clean and fun!
Beware the Penalties!
A few seconds can make all the difference, so avoid these common pitfalls:
- Starting early: (+5 seconds) – Wait for the signal!
- Over-inspecting: (+5 seconds) – Stick to your 15 seconds.
- Disrupting others: (+8 seconds) – Focus on your own cube.
- Misconduct or cheating: (+8 seconds) – Play fair, always.
